Bio – Larry Hennessey

A lifetime listening to the top hits of the day as he played them on the radio fuelled a deep love for music inside Larry (of The Larry and Willy Radio Show) and present host of the all vinyl 80’s music show JACK UP THE 80s on JACK FM Vancouver.Larry Hennessey

In radio studios since the age of 15 Larry also developed a love for recording equipment and what might be recorded with it, starting to overdub synthesizers and compose music adding to his early years experience of singing in choirs and festivals. The lure of vintage equipment and particularly vintage microphones was very strong and he began to collect everything he could find. Now www.microphonerentals.com has over 500 microphones alone along with several studios and storage facilities full of vintage equipment and instruments. The microphones have placed in many Hollywood Productions including the 1962 Motown style recording session scene featured in Bad Times at the El Royale with Jeff Bridges. Larry is a consultant for studio/radio/nightclub/stage scenes in films and productions ensuring proper usage of time correct period equipment and has worked with ABC’s When We Rise, DC’s legends Of Tomorrow and supplied microphones and props to Lemony Snicket, Sonic The Hedgehog, The Watchmen, AKA Jet , Resident Alien and loads of other great productions .

The Garage Studio On The Sunshine Coast is a working museum of vintage instruments and equipment combining the incredible sounds of the past with the ease of Pro Tools magic today. Songs are recorded and tracked there and then mixed and mastered in The Wawa Room in North Vancouver. Racks of vintage outboard are incorporated with the DAW output through a multichannel mixer.

Through www.regeneratorrecords.com Larry has mixed and mastered many classic reel-to-reel recordings for digital release including the transfer and re-mastering of the Terry Jacks collection called Starfish On The Beach. His www.reeltoreeltodigital.com is fast becoming Vancouver’s Multi-Track transfer destination incorporating a collection of classic Multi-Track reel to reel tape machines.

Larry is also a producer, music editor, recording, mixing and mastering engineer, songwriter, singer and voice over artist.

As a recording multi-instrumentalist his strongest instrument is the bass and he has a love of recording background vocals being able to “hear” arrangements quickly and stack vocals in many styles and timbers.

Classic music recording and production techniques on Vintage recording equipment to produce the real sounds and feels of the golden era of recording is Larry’s love and dedication. He also loves to share stories and knowledge of Music Recording History.
